Acts 3: Peter Heals the Crippled Beggar

” Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.  When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.  Peter looked straight at him, as dad John.  Then Peter said, “Look at us!”  So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.  Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”  Acts 3:2-6

Whenever I have read or heard this story before, I think I focused on the miracle of healing.  Today, though, Peter’s faith left me awestruck.  Can you imagine being in a busy public place and hearing God whisper in your ear, “Tell that man to walk”?  Would I have the faith to listen?

“But God, if he isn’t healed, we will both look foolish!”  I wonder if Peter, the same man who denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed, had the same doubts.  But he obeyed, a man was healed, and the story is recorded in God’s Word for all of us to learn from until Kingdom comes.

Will I have the faith to obey the next time God tells me to do something that seems outlandish?  Will you?
